GL Assessment Transfer Test Results – School Intake

Please visit our newly updated blog which gives the figures for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 GL Assessment test published on 1st February 2014.  Results 2013

Thanks to the Belfast Telegraph for publishing these test results.  For a breakdown of the AQE results for 2011 please visit our AQE  Transfer Test results 2012 blog.  To hear about Kip McGrath Lisburn’s results in 2012 please visit our results blog.

Analysing the Transfer Test results can be a bit of a mine field for parents so the aim of this blog is to break the scores down to see how the schools selected in 2011 and compare those scores with how they selected in 2012.

Some schools use a grade boundary system in which they select pupils falling in between specific grade groups, while others use the scores alone to determine who they select.  There are also a few schools selecting on non-academic criteria which are not disclosed and one school Lagan College that accepts a percentage of all ability students.  The tables below are divided firstly into regions to give parents a clear idea of the range of scores being accepted in the schools in their locality using scores and grades. The last tables show the numbers of children in each grade boundary for the schools using this method of selection.  Some schools have provided highest and lowest scores while others have given grades instead.

Grade boundaries
A (234+) B1 (229-233) B2 (224-228) c1 (219-223) C2 (213-218) D1 (138-212)

26 of the GL Assessment schools used a grade boundary system in which they selected pupils falling in between specific grade boundaries to determine how many children would gain admittance.  These results make it clear the numbers of children of varying abilities that were admitted in 2012.
